Lee Janzen

Lee Janzen, 28, from Kissimmee, Florida, won the 1993 U.S. Open in record-tying fashion, equaling the mark of 272 for 72 holes. It was a mark that had been set in 1980 at the same Baltusrol (New Jersey) Golf Club by Jack Nicklaus. Janzen won by two strokes over Payne Stewart of Orlando, Florida who shot 274.

Shooting four rounds in the 60s, the only man other than Lee Trevino, in 1968, to play four scheduled rounds each under 70, Janzen not only tied the 72-hole record, he matched those for 36 and 54 holes as well. Opening with two rounds of 67, he then added two rounds of 69 on the weekend.
