William Payne Stewart

William Payne Stewart, 42, overcoming a bitter loss at Olympic the year before, fought off Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh, and Tiger Woods, to become only the 19th man to win multiple US Open Championships. His win at Pinehurst No. 2 made Stewart the third man to win the Championship twice during the 1990s. Lee Janzen ('93 and '98) and Ernie Els ('94 and '97) were the other multiple winners.
